WGSN : Catwalks hot picks in women's parisian Fashion Week

In this Hot Picks report, WGSN highlights our favourite pieces from the Paris spring/summer 2009 catwalk collections.

• Playing it safe at Paris Fashion Week, designers clung to wearable shapes and commercial looks. Lurking among the stable palette of black and white though, was a distinctly feminine vibe.

• Ruffles, 80s cocktail dresses and mini-crinolines all celebrated the love of the female form, with draped fabrics adding fluidity and movement to silhouettes.

• Frills, fringing, sequins and heavily decorative fabrics added excitement to simplistic shapes. In keeping with a certain commerciality, denim was prominent, bringing with it a touch of rawness. We love the rock-chic faded looks seen paired with heavy studding.

• Mirrored and X-ray-style prints are a great update to last season’s successful tie-dyes.

• Liberty-style florals look great when mixed together with similar-scale prints. We love the black base colour used to ground them.

• Dewy florals and textures conjure up a vision of summer, with the lightness and softness we crave for next season.
